Building a personal list is one of the most important things any business owner can do for the longevity of their business.

There are all sorts of 'ways' of getting people on a list so you can connect with them when you have something you want to say.

So how do you build your list?

And if you're not building one -- what can we do to help you get started??

First rule of thumb in my book is to recognize the difference between a list that's opted in and one that hasn't.

In its most basic definition, a list that HAS opted in, you can email without concern for breaking the law. A list that you email without first getting them to opt in, wellll .. that's what we call SPAM.

Know the difference.

It's also possible to ignore the reason that people opted in to your list, and while not technically illegal, it is annoying to the people on the receiving end and therefore is generally a less than ideal marketing choice to make.

So lemme ask 'ya this -- what're you asking people to opt in to?

What're you marketing?

You? Your company? Your Product?

And what does that mean you can (sensibly) contact them about?

PS. FYI - Oprius is my preferred 'list building tool' ;-)
